Skiing and snowboarding may be the backbone of our trips, but there's a whole lot more to do in these great outdoors. Here you will find many other winter activities.
Alpine Skiing
Once you've experienced the thrill of skiing, you'll understand how easy it is to get hooked. Mastering the ability to ski across alpine resorts covering large distances with little effort makes for an unbelievable adventure. Slow or fast, beginner or expert, smooth and gentle or steep and bumpy, groomed or untracked - the adventure is yours to choose.
Cat Skiing
We see Snow cats (slope grooming machines) at every resort, but rarely can you ride in them, much less get to the best back-country skiing in one. Cat skiing allows you to explore skiing outside resort boundaries making fresh tracks each run. Cat skiing is best suited to confident, strong intermediate skiers/boarders and above. Cat Skiing is available out of Fernie B.C. (Canada) with Island Lake Cat Skiing and also out of Silver Star B.C. (Canada) with Monashee Powder Cat Skiing.
Dog Sledding Tours
Some would have you believe every Canadian has their own dog sled team, but this is far from reality. Dog sledding tours are readily available at several ski resorts and are a fun experience for all ages. Sitting in the sled, rugged up under a warm blanket, you will feel the breeze in your face and hear the calls of "hike-up" as your guide steers the sled along snow covered trails. Choose your own experience.... learning to lead the dogsled or let an experience guide do the mushing and sit back as a passenger. It's pure exhilaration. (No experience necessary)
Evening Bonfires
Fun for the kids, it's an early evening of roasting hot dogs plus marshmallows and sipping hot chocolate. All fires are controlled by the ski resort staff and normally located in the Adventure Park area nearby Tube Town and the skating rink.
Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides
Picture a snowy mountainside village with a horse drawn sleigh in the background jingling all the way. More often than not, this romantic notion is the reality. Snuggle up under blankets and sip hot chocolate as you enjoy a horse drawn sleigh ride through and around a mountain village. (Where available)
Helicopter Skiing
The ultimate ski adventure. Why ride on a chairlift when you can fly to the mountain top by helicopter. Say "bye, bye" to the boundaries of the resort and experience pristine mountains and fresh tracks every run.
Helicopter skiing is best suited to confident, strong intermediate skiers/boarders and above. Please follow this link for information and details on heli-skiing.

Nordic Skiing
Most resorts offer excellent cross-country skiing facilities for traditional and skate skiing enthusiasts. Silver Star Mountains cross-country trails are among the best in the world and are used by many Olympic and National team members. Some resorts offer night-lit trails. Rental equipment (classic and skate-style) is available at all resorts. (No experience necessary.)
Snowboarding
It wasn't that long ago that snowboarding took the alpine industry by storm - today it's loved by riders of all ages. Along with the thrill of riding groomed runs and off-piste trails, there has also been the development of halfpipes, superpipes, terrain parks and rail gardens at most major resorts. Now with the advent of twin-tip skis, you can experience all the freedom of skiing along with all the tricks and maneuvers of snowboarding.
Snowmobile Adventures
World class snowmobiling terrain can be found all around our great resorts. Go on a guided tour through back-country (heated handle bars, hot chocolate stops and incredible scenery await) or rent one for yourself or family. Some resorts even have mini snowmobiles and gated tracks for the kids. (No experience necessary.)
Snowshoe Interpretive Tours
Enjoy the mountains at a slower pace and from a different perspective. Snowshoe through wooded forests while your snowshoe guide describes the flora and fauna that abounds in the mountains during winter. Stop to see animal tracks, deciphering which animals made them and smell the fragrances of the forest trees. Fun for the whole family and educational too! (No experience necessary)
Tubing
Always a favourite with little kids and big kids too! Hop on a big, fat inner tube, push off and spin and slide down your very own snow-covered lane. Its fast and a blast. The whole family will love it! (No experience necessary)
